LinkedIn Content for Job Seekers
Get more job interview invites in your inbox in as little as 30 minutes a week
Hello friend,
When it comes to switching careers into data analytics, LinkedIn is a great way to help stand out and connect with recruiters.
I am pretty sure you have often seen advice to post content. Even from me.
But, the problem I noticed is that this advice normally comes from a content creator perspective.
Unfortunately job seekers incorrectly believe they need to spend countless hours growing followers, posting original content, getting high engagement, etc.
This is wrong.
Let me tell you a secret: 99% of content creators in the data space do not have the same goals as the general job seeker.
Your target audience should be recruiters and hiring managers. And your sole reasons of using LinkedIn should be:
Displaying your competence
Showcasing the problems that you solve
Build relationships to grow your network
Build trust to alleviate the risk in hiring
You don't need engagement, a bunch of followers, or reach to do any of these things.
Personally, I've built about 75% of my core network by the time I had 1,500 followers. Which all took about 6 months.
But, how can you get started?
With what I call the Quick Content Method. Where you post content through the following:
Comments
Reshares
When you do this method, any post that you comment on, reshare, or react to will pop up on your network's feed. Which is the goal of content.
To create an effortless omnipresence.
Comments
For commenting, you should have a goal to post about 10 high quality comments 3-4 days a week.
The best conversations and networking opportunities can originate in comments. If you follow bigger content creators, don't worry too much about trying to network with them specifically. They are too busy to be honest.
You will find hiring managers, current data professionals, and even recruiters conversing in comments.
You NEED to join those conversations.
There are also many smaller accounts that post content as well that are great to engage with.
Reshares
Posting original content on a continuous basis is not easy at all. It can be exhausting and have you focusing on unimportant vanity metrics.
So, instead reshare content and provide your opinion. Here is an example from myself below:
The hard work is already done by someone else, you automatically give the other person credit, and you don't have to spend time coming up with the idea.
Reshares are easy to implement because the opinions naturally arise in the moment which makes it easy to write.
Let's wrap this up
So, using the Quick Content method, you can create content and an active LinkedIn account in less than a couple hours a week.
Its a much lower lift and less intimidating than posting from scratch. And you show up on your network's feed the same way.
If you do decide to venture into posting original content, the Quick Content method provides an easier way to build your confidence as well.
Let me know if this was helpful and if you decide to use it.
